Productboard is one of the fantastic tools in the market that helps companies make products that matter. The tool helps product teams understand customers' needs, prioritize tasks, decide what to build next, and align everyone around the product roadmap.
In this blog, we'll review Productboard, see what its users say about the tool, and what other alternatives you have.
Let's get started!
Overview: What is Productboard?
Productboard is a super user-friendly tool with great features that help product teams ship the right product to the market.
One of the Productboard users said, "Using Productboard has enhanced the teams' ability to launch products while collecting feedback from users. The tool has helped us to focus on building the best products for users."
Productboard has helped various companies make products their customers want by letting them make informed decisions.
Features of Productboard
It's time to have a look at the features of Productboard that make it such a helpful tool for companies.
1. Build Roadmaps
Productboard allows you to align all the team members around the product roadmap.
You can share agile and customizable product roadmaps using the product roadmap software of Productboard.
It lets you plan goals based on important dates and decide what teams will be working on them.
2. Prioritize Features
This feature of Productboard allows you to prioritize tasks and decide what to build next based on user insights and company priorities.
Using a data-driven product management process helps you standardize your prioritization framework.
3. Centralize Feedback
Productboard helps you understand customers' needs by collecting all the customer feedback in one place.
The tool lets you identify new opportunities and trends by analyzing feedback with the help of Insights Trends.
4. Validate Ideas
The tool also provides a public portal where you can share your plans with customers, validate ideas, and celebrate launches with users.
It helps you keep your customers engaged throughout the product lifecycle.
Apart from these features, Productboard also has various integrations that enable efficient workflows in your organization.
Productboard Users Feedback
No matter how great we think our product is, users are the real game changers. So, let's see what Productboard users are saying about the tool.
"Absolute must-have for product managers"
What do you like best?
Tools for creating flexible timelines
Integration with Project Management tools (we are using ADO)
Ability to create custom KPIs (drivers) for features
Integration of customer feedback
What do you dislike?
This is rather a suggestion for a future feature, but I am missing a more deliberate representation of personas or target users.
Also, the timeline labels sometimes overlap when zoomed out.
I would like to be able to place labels, notes, and annotations on the timeline.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes it extremely easy to create flexible timelines to be presented to the team. Also, it allows more clarity and insight into individual features and why we are working on them.

"Great tool for communicating roadmap, but missing key integrations"
What do you like best?
A great tool to share the roadmap internally and keep relevant stakeholders in the loop of what's changed and how features are progressing.
What do you dislike?
Missing integration with Linear. We've had to build a custom integration to connect the two systems but are still not properly in sync forcing us to double-enter numerous items. Also forces other PMs away from PB and only uses linear.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Roadmap communication
Easy to share a high-level view of what my team and other teams are doing in a single view
Other team members also have the opportunity to view certain items in detail if they want to learn more about what a specific team is working on

"Not enough value added for the costs involved."
What do you like best?
Connects with Intercom well and helps to collate multiple customer insights from various sources.
What do you dislike?
I'm not sure if it's real value, it's always looking backward. Maybe it adds value for simpler tools but for us, it's a tough sell.
It doesn't really tell us what to do next, which is OK, we have PMs for that, but then... what is it really doing for us?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is the tool we use to collate insights from thousands of users and sort them into a list of features. It is all manual though, very time-consuming and error-prone. There is automation, but it doesn't work.

Olvy – Better Alternative to Productboard
No doubt, Productboard is a beautiful tool, but here we have another tool – Olvy – that is an excellent alternative to this tool. Olvy offers a set of super valuable features that Productboard ignores.
Productboard helps you build and set up internal product team processes. In contrast, Olvy helps you build beautiful user touchpoints where you can learn more about them and communicate with them 1:1 or via changelogs.
Productboard is a product management tool like Olvy minus feedback analysis and 1:1 user updates. Both get the job done, and together it all fits in perfectly.
Now the ball is in your court. Choose the best one for yourself and enjoy building great products.
